When the pleasure of an addiction
Is greater than the pain,
One will live in denial
And choose to remain the same.
But when the pain of an addiction
Is greater than the pleasure,
One can seek the way of escape
And be blessed beyond measure. RR

so true–what a simple, but profound insight. I think the pain is actually always greater than the pleasure, which is why the addiction grows–to soothe/mask the pain…or at least that’s how it was for my stepdad whose first drug addiction ultimately killed him (infectious liver disease), and second drug addiction sped up his death (took a toll on his liver).
